The story lends itself to great discussions of how we react emotionally to new situations and experiences while reading it. My four year old son was a bit put off by the fact that the main character was a girl, but I pointed out that we had just been out and bought some new shoes and we should think about how his new shoes might have felt if they could talk to us. We used the book to talk about how he had been nervous when he met some new people and how the shoes had felt the same way. In the end, he loved the story. I highly recommend this story for preschoolers. It gave us many opportunities to talk about emotions and fears and how we deal with them which is a very important skill in this...
